GCSE - LSS students continue to achieve highlyDespite tougher GCSE examinations now being in place for all subjects, Lawrence Sheriff students have still managed to improve upon their strong track record at GCSE. 100% of students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at the equivalent of A*-C including English and Mathematics, whilst 65% of all entries were graded at 9-7 (the equivalent of A*-A).
Half of the year group (55 students) gained 9 or more A* or A grades (9-7 in the new system). A quarter of the year group (27 students) achieved the unusual distinction of gaining the top grade 9 score in 5 or more of their subjects.
Results remained consistently high across the core subjects of Mathematics, English, the three sciences, computer studies and history and geography. For example, over 30% of students gained the top Grade 9 in mathematics, with 81% overall gaining the equivalent of A*/A grades in the subject. A whole range of other subjects also performed strongly, with two thirds of the 110 students who entered RE gaining A* or A grades.
Headteacher Dr Peter Kent commented: ‘These are a deeply impressive set of results, reflecting the outstanding achievements of our students who have been strongly supported by their hard working and knowledgeable teachers.’
