Rights Respecting School
RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL
The school is currently silver (rights aware). This was granted by UNICEF UK to the school in January 2021.
The Rights Respecting Steering Group meets on a weekly basis and our aim is to encourage all members of the school community to be engaged, aware and empathetic global citizens. Below are some examples of the initiatives we have worked on during the past three years.
Outright Air Quality – assemblies, whole school tutor time and whole school initiatives
Outright refugees – house assemblies, house drama, whole school tutor time
Student surveys to give students another opportunity to express themselves
Each two weeks our tutor time citizenship is based upon an Article. The articles are taken from the UN convention on the Rights of the Child. Here is a link to it: UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) - Unicef UK.
Here is an example of how we use the Articles:
Annual Foodbank Appeal (Local)
Article 27 adequate standard of living – Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this.
- House assemblies delivered and produced by students
- Rights Respecting activities are delivered during form time
- Whole school charity drive – we have collected the largest single donation the Rugby Trussell Trust has ever seen! Here is a link to the Trussell Trust The Trussell Trust - Stop UK Hunger
- Creation of displays to promote the Foodbank Appeal
